the process

Step 1. Enroll as an Egg Sharing Participant. You will be sent a long form application to complete. Once approved, we will conduct a face to face meeting (either in person or via skype) to go over any questions you may have about egg sharing and to further explain the process.

Step 2. Get Matched! Your profile will be suggested to prospective parents looking to sponsor your egg sharing cycle. When both parties agree to move forward in writing, we have a match!

Step 3. Fertility Assessment. The overall fertility assessment includes three components; psychological, genetic, and medical. Your medical assessment will be scheduled at the prospective parents’ clinic on day 2-3 of your next period after you’ve been matched.

Step 4. Stimulation. Once you have been cleared medically, both you and the prospective parents will complete legal clearance. You will then start stimulation of your ovaries. During the stimulation phase, you will inject yourself with a small needle one to three times a day for 8 to 12 days.

Step 5. Egg Retrieval. The stimulation phase concludes with your egg retrieval. Under sedation, your ovaries will be aspirated. The procedure takes about 20 minutes, and most feel well enough to resume normal activity within 1 to 2 days. Half of the eggs retrieved from this cycle will be shared with the receiving parents and the other half frozen in the lab for YOU.

FAQ

Will I need to travel? Travel of about 5 to 10 days may be necessary. If you agree to match that requires traveling, you and a companion will have travel expenses paid for.

How many eggs will I get? This will vary, but is generally between 16 and 30 eggs total per shared cycle (8 to 15 eggs frozen for YOU)

How many eggs should I bank to guarantee a pregnancy? A pregnancy can never be guaranteed for many reasons, including role of sperm provider’s fertility. Medical professionals suggest 8 eggs per pregnancy attempt if frozen by age 34. If desired, you can be matched up to 6 times.

How long until I am matched? We work hard to match all of our participants, but the time period can vary from immediate to years to never. Participants phase out of the program at age 35, at which time we will provide a counseling session to discuss future directions.

Once I am matched, how long does the process take? Expect the cycle to take between 2 and 3 months from matching to egg retrieval, with only the last 2 weeks including injections and frequent clinic visits.

Will I meet the prospective parents? Most cycles remain completely anonymous unless both parties agree to an alternative agreement.

If I want to bank more eggs, can I be matched again? Absolutely! You can be matched up to 6 times.
